Single Family Residence
Kansas City, Missouri
Situated atop a wooded hill, surrounded by a canopy of deciduous trees, Casa Casita quietly reimagines the idea of multigenerational living and family togetherness.
Housing three generations under one roof, the concept centers on the idea of being private but not separate. Spaces connect easily when family wants to gather, yet each household maintains its own sense of retreat and autonomy. The name Casa (house) Casita (cottage) captures this idea, and together they describe a place where two homes exist comfortably within one larger whole.
Positioned at the crest of a hill, the house faces south to capture expansive views and abundant daylight throughout the day. Gardens surround the home, shaped in part by one homeowner’s passion for planting and cultivation, allowing the landscape to grow into a lush extension of the architecture. Local limestone grounds the home in its Midwestern setting, while siding painted a deep green allows the structure to settle gently into the surrounding forest.
Inside, the home serves as a curated vessel to display the homeowners’ varied collections. Carefully integrated display moments are woven into the architecture, allowing treasured objects to become part of the daily experience. Rich finishes and colors drawn from nature create interiors that feel layered, warm, and alive.
Casa Casita, a home that captures the essence of multigenerational living, embraces togetherness and celebrates the quiet choreography of family life.
